KM 130,417

KM 130,417
Km 130,417 was reached on July 7th 2001. 3 months and 20,000 since leaving Hong Kong. We were on the Indo-Tibetan road wanting to reach the Spiti Valley and its incredible Buddhist monasteries. This was not to be. The road had been blocked for more than a week because of a large mud slide. Several people had told us the road was open, several people had told us it had been closed in the past. One day later, we were back at the same spot ! No round trip this time.

Km 130,417 was on a road following the monsoon swollen Sutlej River. The greyish coloured water contrasted sharply with the tall green surrounding hills. The only spectators to our stop were 2 cows on the side of the road.
