Car & camping in India |
Camping in India ! |
Yes it's possible to camp
together with one billion people in India ! Only not in summer and
preferably in the mountains. If all went well, we would start looking for
a spot to spend the night before sunset and make sure we were not seen. Or
else, we often slept in the courtyards of hotels and asked then if we
could use their facilities for a small fee. Here are a few of our camping
spots.

The best spot we found was by far in Ladakh, on the road between Leh and Manali. We returned to this place on our way down only to find 2 large busses and tents set up for at least 30 tourists and their bicycles !

Life on the road : how to find your way ? |
Despite the lack of road
signs, we only got lost once in India ! The trick is quite simple : ask
once, twice, thrice etc. ! With a couple of decent maps this was
sufficient. The only time we got lost is when we decided to follow a bus
thinking he would lead us to the main road. It didn't and we resorted to
using a GPS ! Another surprise we had is taking a bridge that had a
maximum height (as not to allow heavy trucks and busses) only to find that
the height was not the same at the other end of the road..
